Which would you rather have, 2 rooks & your king, or a Queen & your king?

i would say it depended on what my opponent had. if he still had his/her queen, id match it with a queen. on the other hand if my opponent didnt, id say having the 2 rooks would be more beneficial.

This is similar to asking "bishop or knight" and it depends on the position.

In open games I would definetly recommend the two rooks as they are stronger together but as previously mentioned, it very much depends on the position ...

You can't go by point count alone. You have to look at each case individually. For instance: what sounds like a better piece to you? A rook that can't find any open files, or a knight that is permanently rooted to e6 (or e3 for Black)? POint count tells you that the rook, which is worth 5 pawns, is more valuable than the knight which is worth 3. But experienced players know better.

As far as 2 rooks vs. a queen, more often than not, the 2 rooks are stronger. But there are exceptions. If the side with the two rooks has an open king position and a lot of scattered pawns that are difficukt to defend, often the side with the queen is better.
