Ok, this was my first attempt at something like this. And I failed. How do you get two pawns, a bishop, a Knight and a Rook out the way for black to finish on h1 (under-promoted pawn or Rook) without final capture in 5 moves? Once enough people have solved, please message me the answer? 🙂
one important thing that can help you : in this kind of problem, there's only an unique game that leads to the solution. that means it cannot be "d4 or d3 to get the c1 bishop out" it's either d3 or d4 and the other move doesn't work. Same goes for move order.
And it's an exercise of logic more than chess in my opinion.
(one small hint) You're right in your approach : it's difficult to get the bishop, knight and rook out AND that none of those pieces can get back to their original square to parry the mate...especially the rook is hard to get out of the way...
