The King's Gambit is fertile ground for a cheapo quickie, and this one is no exception. The d-pawn wasn't really hanging...

Well done on the win.

But let's be honest, Black isn't much of a chess player. Mismatches like this are commonplace in the Championship 1st round. It needs sorting out in my opinion. Otherwise it provides one further reason why the Championship is an unappealing tournament for some players. A pity, really

Fun game, it has that "that can't be mate can it? " feeling if you are just clicking through like I was 🙂

The win is nothing (I did leave the ratings in, to your very valid point), really- it's just the form of the mate- Exuma's reaction was the same as mine when I first noticed it. It was one of those "OK if I check where does he go?" moments where the answer ended up being "nowhere!"
