That's interesting, because that was how I was taught how to do Forsyth Notation. However it makes sense for each rank to add up to eight as it makes it obvious if a mistake has been made.
Did you purloin the notebook, or anything else of interest which you found during your tenure as caretaker of Edinburgh Chess Club?
The club still had all the original letters from the London Chess Club
when the Scotch Gambit was first played. Including the letter when
London asked for their move back.
Come up sometime, I'll show you around the club, the whole place
simply reeks of chess history.
Then we can go to Bells. I've just came back from Bells and am
stinking drunk - lost loads of 5 minute games - it was loser stays on.
Laughed like a fool when I saw Emlasker's post. "Just give up."
