Lately I've been exploring the world of marginal openings (BDG, Chigorin's Defense, 1...Nc6!?, Brentano's Defense to the Ruy), and have been scoring so well that it doesn't make any sense. Here's a 15 0 game I just played on ICC against IM Renier Castellanos (FIDE 2466) with Brentano's Defense.
Black's dark squared strategy in this opening is pretty effective, and it's harder to beat as White than you might think! (Hopefully) 😀
Any and all comments are welcome, and sorry to toot my own horn. I'm going to claim that this means you can play pretty much anything against anyone OTB if you really want to and you know a little something.
Good result - what was it Tartakower said.
It it's theory it's questionable. if it not theory it is playable
I met this once in Blitz.
I played Bxc6 dxc6 and d3 and won - looks sensible so it must
be mentioned somewhere.
(Bxc6 and d3 is my lopez strat. I play it all the time. Black has no
d-pawn to hit my e-pawn)
Is this not OK for White.
if 5...f6 then I will most likely sac with 6.Nxe5. Looks fun.
6...fxe5 7.Qh5+ its like a Latvian Gambit. (the 3.Nxe5 Nc6 line)
Hmmmm....two Bishops, can 0-0-0 maybe not too bad for Black.
Depends on who plays the better game on the day. Today it was you.
Well done - good scalp. (I bet he's swatting up on it now).
