The world of chess has lost a great player. Elena Akhmilovskaya Donaldson, once the 2nd highest ranking female player in the world has died of cancer. I had the honor of taking a 1 hour chess lesson from her in the early 90's. She played in many tournaments in the Seattle area. This lady showed respect to everyone, and had a quiet personality that boardered on timidity, yet at the chessboard her moves blazed with tactical brillance. Many were amazed at how such a quite seeming lady could play with such a relentless style that broke down even the most stubborn of defences. Today, I will mourn.
