Any player wishing to improve to intermediate and beyond must be familiar with the classic bishop sacrifice. I was able to use it to win a queen and eventually the game.
Without recognizing the opportunity and seizing it I might have lost again to this solid player that had beaten me a few times already!
See white's 9th move.
Game 684586
Originally posted by PereiraOf course the absence of the knight on f6 is essential. Is is such a heavily analyzed sacrifice (e.g. incredible treatment in The Art of Attack by Vukovic) that you can look for a few key ingredients and learn a few lines and you often get plenty of compensation or a forced mate.
Wow, that was quick destruction of the castled king, perhaps was made possible with the lack of knight on f6 and black bishop.
A nice game in Tal's style.
Originally posted by paultopiayes! i WAS surprised I couldn't do more than just win the queen! After that I was just ahead in material by around 5 points.
That was a good sac.
I just spent 10 minutes calculating to see if there was a forced mate I could demonstrate for revenge for that french thread. Sadly, the win of the queen seems to be best. 🙂
although you probably could've diverted his knight somewhere in there...

of course I'm gonna have to link to my favorite opening the bird....Game 694400
that was a close one.
and you're still down 5-0-1 against me..... 🙂
can't wait for the next rematch.

T, ever tried 3..Qa5! in the Scandinavian? Take a look at it, I play it all the time and it feels much better than any other move there (such as 3..Qd8?, which just loses a move)! 🙂

Originally posted by OssePyrrho played an interesting game with 3..Qe5+, he got trashed if I recall it correctly, so maybe not a good example, but I'll try to look up that game! 🙂
