Has anyone else noticed that Nybble's screen name is remarkably similiar to the screen name of some one who got banned for violating rule 3(b) at about the same time Nybble appeared on the scene?

Smaug's suicide mate can only happen two ways, right? (1.e4 (or e3) e5 2.Qh5 Ke7 3.Qxe5# ). If so, that brings the total to 306. Were there other mates that I missed?

There are many permutations of 1.Nc3 Nc6 2.f3 e6 3.g4 Qh4# that raise the number of mates before the fourth move to something over 500, I would guess.

Oh, sorry, just noticed you changed it to Black mating on move 3. That gets pretty hairy, because stuff like 1.e3 Nc6 2.Ne2 Ne5 3.g3 Nf3# works.

Yes, such smother mates will add a handful to the Fool's mates. Stilll, it might be nice to have a number. We must be pushing close to 600 by now.

Why is Nybble so popular? He/She 's rating is really low.

One mate I played when I was 7.

1. e4 e5
2. Qh5 Ke2
3. Qxe5#

This was at the time when I expected my opponent to play g3, and then I would win a rook with qxe5+
