Looking at the current top 10 ranked players, I was surprised to see someone who'd gotten to the top, apparently making as few moves as they had games.
Close inspection reveals that they'd started around 50 games against the same opponent, and gotten their opponent to resign after one move. Net result, lots of wins, no losses, high ranking.
Obviously this is unethical, but what can be done about it? I've challenged the player, but not sure if I'm going to get a proper game.
For one thing, you should not play this player. It will mess up the ratings of an honest player (you).
I think Russ should make another account and call it something like "Rating Muncher".
He could log in as both and make a ton of games and take the ratings back from people who inflate their ratings.. He would also need to make "Rating Muncher" not show up in the player tables.

Oh, and good point about not playing them, messing up ratings... thanks! 😀

There must have been some degree of collusion with RHP admin. for this to be achieved. ( They may be aware of pakaya's real ID perhaps and seeded him/her accordingly?)

Incidentally, the other player in this charade, Renawada, joined on the same day! Either way, some sort of explanation/action is neccessary from admin. if only to maintain a degree of credibility. Hmmmmm?

I don't think any collusion is necessary, just a touch of OCD and some free time.
Take a look at this, he got almost all his points from renawada (and some from cheactme), renawada got almost all his points from pukatathama (and some from cheactme), pukatathama got all his points from cheactme and cheactme got his points from tens of different player: piyan, kiling, guukanna, asdfgg, kamala, pkltt, pissu, sira and probably even more...
This guy is a cheater and should be banned, but he sure did put a lot of time in this! 😲

Thinking that the administrators were "in on it" seems like one of the most implausible conspiracy theories I've heard in a while. If they really wanted to "seed" someone they knew to be a master in chess higher, then I'm absolutely sure they wouldn't do it in this laborious and ineficient way - they'd just edit that person's rating right in. And besides, there's no reason why even a grandmaster couldn't start at p 1200. A truly strong player will rise in rankings quite rapidly, without cheating.
Also, the administrators would know full well that this sort of a sudden rise with false acounts could not be missed by site users.

This is a problem that involves also lower rating players: check out mossgroup and the thread "faking one's own rating" in the Help and site forum (thread 8871).
Any comment?
mossgroup has cheated, but does play chess. a lot of genuine chess.

Seems that players are more "scandalized" if a rating faker is in the top 10 than in the lower positions, but the cheating is the same and remains; however is only my opinion..............

if the mossgroup account is deleted then we would lose a chess player. - hopefully mossgroup will now just play chess 🙂
if pakaya is deleted then we lose nothing.
Originally posted by flexmoreIf banning mossgroup is too harsh, then I'd suggest droping his rating down to somewhere like 1000, and warning him not to try to raise it by cheating again, under the threat of being immediately banned if found doing so.

I do think that cheaters that get caught should receive some sort of sanction. To make matters worse, mossgroup didn't fess up even when it was evident to everyone what he'd done. Droping the rating would seem like an appropriate thing to do anyway, as that would go some way to counter the rating inflation his actions have caused.
