I knew a chess player many years ago when I lived in London. Let's call him Mr Finebloke.
Anyway, Mr Finebloke had a habit of entering Swiss tournaments on the day, promising the organiser that he would pay the entry fee later. He would generally win in the first round or two and then disappear as soon as he lost a game, usually before he got round to paying. He was one of the most objectionable people I have ever met (though I have yet to meet Greenpawn).
That was all a long time ago. I hope Mr Finebloke has changed his ways.

The only time I've seen first hand a chess squabble nearly going to court
was when the Edinburgh Wandering Dragons failed to post their application
to play in the Edinburgh League.
Their late application was refused and although they were the current
Edinburgh League Champions it did seem like they would not be allowed
to defend their title.
The league Sec was probably just putting the wind up them and had every intention
of allowing them to play. At the previous AGM he did say he was fed up
with the late applications and he would refuse any late entries.
Dragons threatened legal action and the whole sorry mess appeared on
the front page of The Scotsman.
Dragons were eventully allowed in to defend their title.
