I have just started playing chess again after nearly 49 yrs,
Nowdays their seems to be a trend in advancing pawns.
I was always taught to move no more than three pawns in the opening srages!
Anyone got aby thoughts on how to deal with this, and any good books on how to handlle the ADVANCUND PAWNS.
I end uo being cramped in development in this process!!!
opponents in under 1300's RHP often disregard basic opening principles. not much sense in wasting valuable developing moves with needless pawn pushing...
of course you better not let enemy pawns invade your camp, not permanently anyhow. try to use developmental moves capturing them. and plan your own pawn advancing and piece-placement so that enemy pawns will be stopped, preferably before reaching the sweet center if possible.
Originally posted by mipmcptDon't get tempted to follow their plan and also start advancing pawns. Develop your pieces, when they're all ready just make a pawn break, just sac one if you have to, or even a piece if you're feeling brave. The opponents pieces all settlled nicely on the back rank will have to sit and watch as you invade the position.

Originally posted by wormwoodYup this looks horrible, though at a glance White hasn't made anything easy for himself as he seems to have thrown away his chance of a meaningful pawn break by advancing e5 and allowing... d5. His pieces block everything else, rather unfortunate.
unless they have (more) activity, like in
