Is it possible to force mate with a king and pawn vs king with the pawn on the first file?

It depends on the position. If you can queen the pawn then obviously , yes; if not then, no.

Is it the Game 2717531 we're talking about? Still in progress?

I accepted the draw. I don't think it is possible to mate without your opponent making a blunder. Anyway, it's no longer in progress so start with the advice!

I think that it is possible to get a win from a king and a pawn.
Just make sure that you defend the pawn with the king, and you will slowly be able to get the pawn to the end.
Then promote it to a queen.

Then you can use the queen to pin the opponents king to one side of the board, then you move in with your king and queen to find a mate.

Takes time, but is very possible.

I guess it is easier to be the opponent and see someone else win form there.

Black's last chance for a win in Game 2717531 was on move 49, when he should have played 49...h5+ rather than 49...gxf4. After h5+ the win was easy as Black would follow it up with 50...g4 and Black has two connected passed pawns.

With a king and rook pawn vs king, as long as the defending king can get to the queening square (and sometimes even if it can't!) it is a draw.

You're right about move 49. My endgame sucks. Thanks for the advice.
Be seeing you.

If you have nothing constructive to say, go and sit in the corner with your naughty hat on.
