Alekhine vs Pirc

I'm another regular Alekhine's player, and I'm never sure what to think about 2. Nc3. Part of me says white is ducking out of the most challenging lines after e5, and so I want to strike out with 2...d5 and exploit this supposed hesitancy. However I am not convinced that 2...d5 is really so good for black if white knows what they are doing. It's sound but certainly not better for black, so it's all down to personal preference.

In favour of 2...d5, if white plays e5 black has the choice of the type of game, messy after 3... Ne4 and calmer after 3...d4. There's also 3...Nf6-d7 of course.
