If anyone announce a mate in five or something to me, I would be offended by it, I think it is very rude.

That's what I was thinking. If the game is an endgame, your opponent will catch on after a couple of moves anyways. If it's not an endgame, it's highly doubtful you can calculate a mate in 12 with 99%+ accuracy unless you're a genious, so announcing to your opponent that you have a mate in 12 is at best, rude, and at worst, stupid.
