I don't think 1.d4 is too early... It does delay castling a little bit but with good play by White, Black is hard pressed to take advantage of any minor delay like this.

I thought it might have something to do with development of the rooks for king side attack, I dunno it's just something I read hope somebody can enlighten me.

I'll let you in on a little secret...

People play chess according to their personality. A psychiatrist once said that he could learn more about a person by playing them a game of chess than by talking to them for several sessions! Want to know how the basic theme works? It works like this:

The aggressive, risk-taking personality plays 1.e4

The conservative, non risk-taking player who is afraid of losing plays 1.d4.

Here's more...

People who throw pawns and pieces away for an attack either have a lot of money, or they do not place a high value on money!

People who won't give up a pawn are very conservative in their play and their personal finances! Yes, there's a direct relationship.

It's been my personal experience that people who play 1.d4 either don't have any money OR they have money but are very careful with it.

hahah i've heard it all now.. is e4 more aggressive than d4 and e4 opening is quicker for castling are e4 players more scared than d4 players could easilly flip that around and say e4 is conservative since you castle earlier. And what about phonys who like to pretend they have lots of money.

What I said is true my friend. It was first said by a psychiatrist, so I cant take credit for it... but to tell you the truth, in all my experience, I agree with him.

heheh.. I would also like to add I play d4 because its the 1st move in the london system opening, why do I play london system? because I'm not a very experience player and read its an opening I can use against any black opening which gives opportunity to attack on king or queen side depending on how I want to play.
Are gambet players millionaires, and full gambet zillion trillion billion millionaires 🙂

Statistically, of the common opening moves, 1. e4 is the worst for white. And the sicilian defence is statistically the strongest defence against e4. I think that may be why so many people are playing the way they are. Many people use databases and go by the statistics. Personally, I play 1. Nf3, but that's another story...
