Just joined the 1350-1399 banded tournament....and I've learned to take a look at the "competition".
Let us all congratulate the following 1670+ players who are braving the scary waters of a 1350 banded tournament.

Such mighty men you are.

What I do now is message EVERY member of a tournament where a sandbagger has joined, and encourage folks to withdraw. If the true 1300 (or whatever band) players opt out, maybe the sandbaggers will stop.

I apologize if you think the rules on this matter are not fair, but in all honesty, I don't really have a choice. I would prefer to play in the banded tournament more fitting my actual ranking. However, at the time I signed up, that was all I could get into. Everyone on this site suffers timeouts that damage their rating when they go on vacation. It takes time to recover, but it's not really our fault. In this case, as my rating has since increased and the tournament has not started, I will respectfully withdraw.
However, this is a problem that everyone who plays in tournaments faces and I don't think that trying to sabotage the tournament is the proper way to handle it. Until the rules change in a manner that somehow keep currently misranked players out, virtually every banded tournament will have a few players that are actually at a higher level than the others.
When I'm on your side of the fence, I don't blame the better players for having to follow the rules. If your problem is that you think you stand no chance of winning because some of the players are harder to beat, not only are you wrong but your priorities are out of order. The rating of your opponent shouldn't matter so much. All you can do is play your best game against any opponent, regardless of the context. Who knows, maybe you'd have beaten me or one of the other 'sandbaggers'. If the result was a foregone conclusion, which it never is, there'd be no reason to play the games. Give it your best shot, and whether it works out or not, learn from it. Just because you don't win the tournament doesn't mean that it wasn't a good experience.
Meanwhile, I recommend you discontinue blaming the players for this 'glitch' in the rules. If you can convince the site to change the rules in a manner that keeps the tournaments more level, then great. Otherwise, recognize and accept that you might have to face some stiffer competition than expected in banded tournaments.

For nonny moose, why not put your energies into trying to solve the problem rather than just sending out loads of pms.
I believe a good solution was found here... http://www.timeforchess.com/board/showthread.php?threadid=31221&page=1
(especially towards the end) but there wasn't much interest at the time. A lot of people are obviously very annoyed by the banded tournies being wrecked, but most of you just start up a thread like this one, without actually thinking about how to resolve the problem.

You "have no choice" but to play in a tournament BANDED for much lower rated players? I think not. You CHOOSE to take away from others the ability to play in a tournament with their equals.
You are no sportsman.

If I were to go on vacation, time out a bunch of games, then join an 800 or 900 banded tournament -- then I'd be doing what I'm complaining about.

Since there seems to be no way to prevent the sandbaggers, then the folks who wish for banded tournaments can message these jerks and then withdraw.
If those three sandbaggers were alone in that tournament, then they'd stop. It only continues because people go along.
