Anyone know any good defenses against the KIA?

It is basically a flank opening, so playing in the centre is an old tried and tested response.

I've never understood why people say the King's Indian is a flank attacking game. To me it seems all the action happens in the center.

Does anyone have some thematic King's Indian games? I'm actually more interested in the Defense than the attack, but post both if you have them.

Why? Is the King afraid to do it himself?

The center usually closes up and the flank pawns move foward to open lines.

Let the indians go kill each other off. Counter it with the king's indian defense! 😛

Seems to be some confusion between the Kings Indian Attack and the Kings Indian Defence.......

Someone mentioned a variation called the "Bayonet Attack" that Kramik uses against the King's Indian, which works pretty good. I dunno if it works or not, but it might.

KIA is like any other popular opening, so no standard formula exists to beat it. If there was one KIA would haved died out.
I agree with Stives, play in the center. keep it open, if possible have a bishop pair. so fundamenally KIA will not succed as pushing kingside pawns with the center open will greatly weaken the king. if the center closes, try opening with a knight sac for 2 pawns with open lines.Your long range bishops will be of great advantage.
