Ben Finegold is an IM who lives in Michigan. I found one of his games that I hadn't seen before and even though it's an older game, it's still pretty. This game allowed Ben to tie for 1st place in the 1994 U.S. Open.

1.c4 c6 2.Nf3 d5 3.b3 Nf6 4.Bb2 Bg4 5.e3 e6 6.Be2 Nbd7 7.O-O Bd6 8.d3 O-O 9.Nbd2 Re8 10.Rc1 e5!?
I like this move. Black is already equal if not better.
11.cxd5 cxd5 12.e4 Nb6 13.h3 Bh5
Exchanging the bishop would be a mistake. Not only because it concedes the bishop pair, but because White's pieces are stuck like sardines in a can.
14.Re1
It's interesting to note that all of White's moves so far have either been "book moves" or moves suggested by Fritz. But to my knowledge Black's next move is a new idea where the concept is out of the scope of Fritz's positional understanding.
14…a5!? 15.a3
Favoring Black is 15.exd5 Nbxd5 16.Nc4 Bb4 17.Nfxe5 (17.Rf1 e4) 17...Bxe1 18.Bxh5 g6 19.Bf3 Bb4.
15...Qe7!
A nice finesse. Black attacks White's a-pawn twice while getting the queen off the d-file. Black has the initiative and is pushing White around.
16.Nb1
This move is both logical and full of tricks. It defends the a-pawn a second time while clearing the knight out of the way. It also sets a trap for Black if he tries to win a pawn. Do you see it?
16.dxe4 17.dxe4 Nxe4
Is this move a blunder?
18.Bb5
Looks like Black fell into a trap...
18...Ng5 19.Bxe8 Bxf3 20.gxf3 Nxh3+ 21.Kf1
I think that Zlotnikov may have intended 21.Kh2 Nf4 22.Bxf7+ but then realized that White is lost after Qxf7 23.Re4 Qh5+ 24.Kg1 Qg5+ 25.Kf1 Qg2+ 26.Ke1 Bb4+ 27.axb4 Qg1+ 28.Kd2 Qxf2+ 29.Re2 Nxe2 30.Qe1 Rd8+
21...Qh4 22. Re2
Most players would play 22.Bxf7+ before defending the mate, but Zlotnikov has a reason for not playing it.
22…Nf4 23. Ke1 Rd8!
White was hoping Black would take the bishop, with the rook.
24.Nc3 Bf8 25.Qxd8 Ng2+! 26.Kd2 Qxd8+ 0-1

thats a hunk of fishππ΅ππ΄
Some feedback would be nice.
Originally posted by arrakisI personally welcome Chess discussions but you've lost me. Trying to follow the moves on Winboard, it complains about your lack of brackets. Incidentally I had this problem last night trying to cut and paste the Polgar loss on Chessbase, not everyone has Fritz or the newer programs that can distinguish between a comment and a move.

Can you please insert some brackets or just have an un-annotated version?

Originally posted by !~TONY~!It not an outrageous request given that even Chessbase make the same assumption that "everyone has Fritz". Actually I did fix the errors but I wanted to comment in case this becomes part of a trend.

Originally posted by z00tI didn't study the position; I went through the entire game quickly via Analyze Board on a different game. I didn't want to replay the whole thing manually to study the position and I didn't notice anything when I looked at it the first time.
After Qh1 its mate since the rook covers the escape square. Don't tell me a 1500 cannot see that?
Originally posted by z00tI modified the version to make it easier to read. Since I know most players don't want to use a regular chess board to move the pieces, you can print the text version (above) out on paper and then enter the game (below) into your chess program. That way you can step thru the moves while looking at the annotations. Here's the game in pgn format:

typo in move 16, if you still have the edit possibility open.
interesting game, and it's always nice to see annotations...
