Only Chess

If you're like most chess players (myself included) you probably have at least a few chess books that you started to study and didn't finish, and or a software program or app you no longer use. Did you play through all the games in those old Informants of yours that use your chosen openings? Did you try to solve the middle and endgame exercises in the back of them? Did you play through the correct answers to your tactics puzzles when you got them wrong, or did you just read them? Do you use ALL the tools in your chess software or app or just a few of them?

This may sound overly simplistic, but most of us already have the tools we need. The internet features IM's and GM's who basically give the same instructions for those who want to improve. i.e. do chess puzzles daily, play serious games, analyze them yourself before using an engine, work on your endgames etc. So- before we fall prey to the next slick salesperson telling us to buy their latest "shiny object" that's guaranteed to improve our chess, let us use the tools we already have to their maximum potential, because they're probably good enough. 🙂

Intrstyng that chess and foreign languages are apparently easier to learn when the brain is fairly young. I wonder if there’s any good articles summarizing studies ? Where’s my G scholar !

I’d like to see our RH members on a graphic, a multimodal distribution ?
