Most of the regular players here will know all about the fianchetto.
Bishop on the long diagonal etc etc.

king's indian defence is clearly the strongest - black always wins😲

Most GMs prefer Spanish Game, Fischer played it 1 out of every six games.

I've heard that the English is popular with fictional characters.

Personally, I like to play the Drunk American, unless it's one of the Polgar sisters or Jennifer Shahade then I play the Mighty Johnson

And you saying that with nothing else really added to the thread didn't it? And me saying this is a waste of your time reading it if you are after openings.

There is no best opening and I don't even claim that the KIA is the best. It is just the best for my style of play.

Probably a good argument for the Ruy Lopez (Spanish Game).

Spanish game is probably the best opening because it fights quickly for position in the sweet center (the 4 center squares) by threating the e5 pawn with the bishop. One should also study other related openings:

Scotch Game
Italian Game
4 Knights Game

Exactly. There's no such thing as the best opening.

I think Ruy Lopez would come up as the most common.

Total agree. There is no such thing, otherwise, everyone will be playing it!

For example, Kasparov when he was actively playing, against 1. d4, he used to play the King's Indian Defence, however, in recent times (before retiring), he has responded with 1... d5!

It's just a matter of style and taste! ... just like food.
