One of the nice things about chess is that we can leave the other part of the crappy world behind while we play, and all kinds of people can come together to play--kids, old people, handicapped people, people who have different religions and even languages. One of the nicest people I've ever known couldn't beat a six-year old, but he was at every tournament, having fun, and everybody enjoyed having him there. Every time he lost, he would say something like "You sure are good!" I first met him in my first tournament, and in our game, he had me thinking 30 minutes about why he sacrificed a bishop for a worthless pawn.
When he died, there was a memorial city wide tournament in his honor.
It may not be the intent to ridicule people by discussing their abilities or skills here, but it can seem that way. Those low rated players are here having fun--if it wasn't fun, they wouldn't be here playing, would they? They are enjoying the game and the opportunity to interact with others who share their approximate skill level. Why don't we refrain from discussing them in these forums unless they voluntarily come into the forums and make themselves a subject of discussion? Just a suggestion...
If as a result of my post, BigAl34 is currently sobbing quietly to himself in front of his computer then I apologise.
I suspect he probably isn't.
For God's sake lighten up.
[EDIT] I think what is offensive is assuming that if a person has a low rating therefore they can't have a sense of humour.

You should not be so easily offended.

[EDIT] It would only be inconsistent if I had said people should not post such threads, or that they should be deleted. I am entitled to find them as irritating as I wish.

It's obvious that you are pissed off.
I'm sorry I pissed you off. I didn't realize your skin was so thin. I'll try to be more considerate of your feelings in the future.
Originally posted by dottewellAnd as I pointed out, I'm sorry I offended your delicate sensibilities. Maybe you'll survive the trauma.

Originally posted by dpressnellYou're being stupid. He's made it quite clear he wasn't offended. Since we're online, and the only thing you have to go by is what he types, I'd suggest believing him.
