Black strategy.

I've noticed most strategy books I come across are geared toward white (King's Indian Attack, Queens Gambit, etc.)

I play only as black because I enjoy flipping the script on the unsuspecting.

Can anyone please point me in the direction of a good offensive defense strategy for black?

A book rec. would be wonderful. Thank you.

I would personally advise you to play everything. Kasparov won games as both black and white not because of the opening but he knew what to do after the book line ends. Getting a book on how to beat opening xyz will not get the bull off the ice.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, play solidly anticipating your opponents moves and you will be amazed how far you can go.

Thank you z00t,
I already do all that which you witfuly suggested, but still am trying to push through 1300 in a comeback from my 1100.

Regardless of the fact that I havent played as white once since I've been a member, that naggingly low rating of mine shows that, though I've been playing since a child, I am still an amateur.

strategy is not your problem, lack of tactical training is. start doing tactical puzzles (preferably) daily, and you'll hit 1500 faster than you can say "bottleneck."

well in a few months anyway.

here's a good free site for it:

The book doesn't exist, for a very good reason 😉

There's a chapter on that subject in the old text Beating the Anti-Sicilians by Joe Gallagher.

don't let the time control rush you, just do the problems at your own pace, regardless of your rating. aim for about 83-85% correct, that's about 1 wrong out of every 6 problems. about 67% will give you the best rating, but you won't learn much over time, because you're essentially guessing. the more accurate you are, the more you learn, but it also cuts down the amount of problems you'll be able to sustain daily. 85% is a compromise on that, but it yields the best gain in my experience.

Latvian Gambit vs. Schliemann Defence. There is the match-up of the week.

For you I recommend playing semi-suicidal variations of KID.
