What are the qualities you have to posses to be a good blitzer (except good and fast tactics vision obviously)? It seems to me that the main difference between blitz and long chess games (starndard or CC games) is that always the best move isn't the most troublesome for your opponent.
Secondly, if you play tired and deconcetrated you can lose ten games in a row without even realizing it until it is too late. So you should probably play blitz if you are in the mood for it otherwise it is very easy to catch yourself while you randomly push pieces without any idea or enthusiasm.
In addition, rating of your opponent is not that good indicator of your opponents strength (1200 on FICS can be as tough as 1600, I do not know why probably because in blitz you can play for +-400 points only depending on your current mood, some days you just spot tactics and your opponents mistakes better/worse, faster/slower than other days.)
I think that is very important to know how to manage your time well. Too many time spent on solid opening only to learn you do not have time to win superior middlegame, not to mention the endgame maybe isn't the best idea.
I think blitz is very different form of chess. You can share your experiences/advices if you want. Recently I had one week of intense OTB blitzing and it was extremly fun. Altough my main focus remains to be good in OTB looong games as this is how I like to play chess the most, most OTB players like to play blitz more than long so I want to be good on that field too.

Someone said it, so I'll repeat it: "Ignorance is blitz."
Even so, blitz is by far my favorite form of chess. If it weren't for blitz, my cheapos would never work! 😛

Blitz is not chess--see Thread 98826 for an example of the garbage that sometimes prevails.
