Bobby Fischer on TV! A&E Cable TV channel is carrying what appears to be a 60 minute Bobby Fischer bio program at 4 AM Thursday Nov 18. Set your VCRs. Hopefully they will run it in the future at a more reasonable time. Thanks to Don Schultz former USCF Pres & GM Yasser Seirawan for the tip on this event

4 AM. That's about the respect we chess players get on national media. We're Rodney Dangerfield here, folks. And truthfully, even HE got more real life respect than chess players do.

Now if it was a quarterback or something like that, (You know, something requiring brawn and not intellect,) well, man, they'd be falling all over themselves to cover that.

Seems to me the things that really matter in life go fly right by the media. Things in life that really matter? Chess, of course.

But in the end, I suppose they don't really grasp it because it actually requires some real thinking power; gray matter.; firing off of neurons. Something our media seems to have a shortage on.

actually, A&E has a pretty well-established pattern of debuting biographies at 4am. After looking at the reception it recieves they then decide whether or not to place the biography at a more prime slot.

When Fischer was in his prime, the media were all over the guy. If Stephen Hawking were to do a bio, he'd get a ton of respect.

Now Fischer is only a mildly newsworthy drama. It's not about chess for him now.

Gladly, they mostly focused on the 1972 World Championship and his rise. After the 1975 forfeit, the show was, I believe 4am is early, 3/4 finished. A brief mention of different things after that, 1992 match, I was tourtured... book, VISA revoked, etc. One of the best parts was the interviews clips from others like Brown, Bisguire, S. Polgar, Schultz, and others.
