My biggest bogie is myself. Somtime I play some of the stupidest blunders. I lost a tournament game when I counted on a enpassing capture. My pawn was on f6. When g5 was played the sever would not let me capture it. I wonder why? I lost my Bishop and the game was lost.

Mine is rockido. I have an 0-4 record against him at the moment, from times when his rating was lower, higher, and about even to mine. And now I have two games going on against him right now! 😲

You couldn't capture en passant because of where your pawn was. It has to be on your 5th rank, not your 6th. The rule is that if an enemy pawn moves two squares to avoid being captured, when moving one square would have allowed it to be captured, the en passant rule applies. In your case if his pawn had moved one square your pawn would not be able to capture it, so the en passant rule is not in effect.

Yes I know. That is why I called it a stupid blunder. Would you believe I captured inpassing and was accused of hacking the game once? The players was rated about 2000. Hard to believe a high rated player did not know about that rule.

Oh, duh! I forgot all about the subject of this thread. So now I feel like an ass for explaining a rule that didn't need explaining. πŸ˜•

That is hilarious though, the guy who claimed you were hacking the game. Haven't had that hapen to me online, but once when I was playing a good friend at chess for the first time, and I tried to invoke the en passant rule, he accused me of making up rules as I go. He wouldn't let me carry it out, but I beat him anyway, because he, well, sucks. After showing him the official rules (from several different places) he finally believed it, although he said, "Well I don't like that rule. It's stupid." So from now on, whenever I sit down to play someone I've never played before, I make sure they are familiar with all the rules.

Pawns moved a square at a time. The two square on the first move of the pawn rule was started to speed up the game. Inpassing capture rule was to prevent a pawn from passing a pawn without said pawn having a chance to capture it.

MSN. I would not play there if i was you. The players are abusive and harassing. Pluss MSN did not enforce standard chess rules as of the last time I played there. I have not played there in about five years. Over the board internet chess games are full of cheaters and hackers.

Ahh, yes...very enlightening, indeed. And you say this as a response to my post....why?
