    I agree, a sad day. Spassky was cast as an evil figure by the American press during the 72 match with Fischer. Few in America realized however Spassky was not interested in the cold war, or in politics. He was just a chess player. Even though he lost to Fischer, Spassky seemed. the more mentally stable of the two.

    incidently I've been going through his closed sicilian games the last few days, there's some great stuff in there. especially in the 60s and 70s he was simply lethal with it.
