Botvinnik is an ignored WCC,

Botvinnik would have lost the match, but won the rematch by default. 😉
I'd say Fischer. Both were great players but Botvinnik, by his own admission
had one failing. His tactical ability was not what it should have been.
Fischer nearly won their sole encounter cos Bot missed a tactic and in that
game Fischer had yet to reach his peak.
Fischer's weakness before 1972 was he relied so much a few openings.
He knew them well but players could prepare against them.
And there was possibly no one better at preparing for a match than the Bot,
especially in the re-match.
Come '72 and he unleashed a new bag of tricks. The QGD, which Spassky
was told to prep against but never did "Fischer won't play that."
Also the Alekhine and the Pirc popped up for the first time in '72.
So Fischer but there would have been a lot of draws.
