"Each pawn has its own character..."

In Caxton's 'The Game and Playe of the Chesse' each pawn was given a name.

Innkeepers, Moneychangers, Doctors, Blacksmiths.....

Having a passed Blacksmith is good, a backward Doctor on an open file, not so good.

I think it's amusing that no one seems to have any idea what this thread is about, still, and yet no one seems to be bothered by that at all. 🙂
