Can a pawn capture the Queen?

I was playing Deep Sjeng 2.7 and it wouldn't let my pawn capture the queen... "Impossible move". I've read on the web that this is a possible move and would like some feedback. Thanks!

Also, what's the best free chess software out there? Thanks and Happy New Year!

As long as the pawn isn't uncovering a check on your own K.

Or there is a check from another piece.

Maybe not the absolute best but a combination of Crafty and Arena would be good enough for most people.

Crafty is a chess engine - put crafty chess in google and you will find it.
Arena is an interface for chess engines, google should be able to find that also.

A pawn can capture a Queen.

There must have been some other reason - most likely your King was in check.

If you post the position we can tell you why the move was illegal.

NO it's not an impossible move and a good free chess software is called Crafty 19.3 its a engine it's hard !!!
