Anyone think it is possible to reach 1800 by doing nothing but playing chess?

No! The only way I can see this being possible is if you spend 15+ years. I even doubt it then.

I mean if you keep playing game over game and not going over them, not reading books, not studying etc...

No way.

there's quite a lot of people here who have played dozens of years, and still are quite far from 1800... I doubt it's possible.

I would need to study, study, study just to reach 1500 let alone 1800...but on this site I think it is possible to reach 1800 witout studying, because you don't actually have to beat higher level players...theoreticaly you could beat 1400-1600 players consistently and eventually you will be 1800...at least thats how I think it works

I think...that with tactics, reading these forums, and playing chess you can reach 1800 RHP in appx. 12-18 months.

If you mean 1800 on here, then yes. I'm one of them. Well, not book studying. I've never read a book (except for chess for dummies, but that was largely unhelpful). Everything I know about chess (not that much) I've learned through listening to what other people have to say. I have a good memory for chess (probably because I love it) so I've been able to retain quite a bit since I started (about this time in '02). I have books, but I have a bit of a problem with procrastination. But I will be starting soon.

you have any thoughts on diagram training?

my question is.....will i benefit by solving the diagrams from the book?
as opposed to setting up each position.....
