I'm getting thrashed whenever I play this lately. I can't blame the opening, my own incompetence appears to be being exposed when White drags me into unfamiliar positions, even after the Nd7 variant, which I'm relatively comfortable with in principle.

I used to play the French Defence but it became hard to play. I then took up the Caro-Kann and I have found it is a lot easier to play.

I dunno, I find the Caro-Kann gets me into some cramped positions. I personally don't like it.

I tried it out a while ago before I was better at strategic play, but I don't think I'll go back, I like good 'ol 1.e4 e5

I hate the advance variation. Not too many people have played it against me though, so I really haven't had any trouble.

I like playing against the Advance Caro Kann more than any other system. I usually play the Gurgenidze against it and it throws many white players way off.

Of late I've been playing an anti-Caro Kann system: 1.e4 c6 2.c4

It has worked out fairly well for me. It certainly has open game potential.
