. I am curious though, I recently played a person that I beat rather soundly a month or so ago and as it is easy to see I am average or below. This persons ranking has gone up incrediblely in the last month and I noticed from his profile that he has not lost the last 50ish games in the last month. Is this an indication of chess program cheating? Is there any way get hints on this type of behavior? I don't want to turn him in I just want to avoid this type of player.

I won't. I'm asking if there is a way to tell these players from honest ones in the future.

Sudden unexplained rises in rating can certainly be an indication of inappropriate behaviour but in themselves mean nothing.

Players could improve because at first they played blitz here and now they take it seriously, take longer per move and use databases, etc.

Good players also have bad games and can make the most dreadful blunders. This could happen due to over confidence, rushing, tiredness, moving after a few drinks too many, etc.

The only sure fire way to determine if a player is cheating is if he plays like an engine.

If you are concerned avoid him until such time as you feel his rating is accurate. I try and avoid players with steep rises and players who are prone to time outs unless I know them and are confident they are whom they claim to be.

If you are concerned enough use the link at the foot of every page to send feedback along with your evidence.

If you have a genuine concern, and a genuine reason(s) for that concern, then you shouldn't hesistate to send feedback (just check the bottom of every RHP webpage). The site administrators will look into the player's games if there is obvious concern to do so.

Basically if someone has been constant at a level for several months and then their graph rises at an angle of 50% or more then they are pretty suspect.

User 363314 is a good example.
