I Like the Hardcore tournaments. Blunders galore on both sides as
your game load jumps from nil to 40+ and your 21 day clock is ticking.
My war cry 'Check all checks' has bit me in the rear a few times
but this one is a classic. Apparently my opponent showed it to
Jeff Horner (IM) and he just laughed. (don't mind usually it's
the 1400 players who are laughing at me. ) Moving too fast, doing
other things like talking to others on other sites whilst playing,
getting ready to go out and clearing my boards before I go with
her nagging at me.....'hurry up.'
(that happened,, came home and found I'd lost a piece in another game.
- I was in a naff position anyway. Maybe I did it on purpose.)
I know everyone here suffers the same problems and miss things
so this is not an excuse. I'm just relating to my RHP members.
Also have had my head turned around by Sadler's 'Game Changer' my review will
appear here soon along with another game played v the same opponent.
I have to remember these are new ideas, new tricks...and I'm an old dog!
Check All Checks....(and then check them again.)
After going though my game look at the first 9 moves of this Game 9068384
1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 {Most others here got a Latvian (2,,,f5) but I'd thought I'd play a Marshall.} 3. Bb5 a6 4. Ba4 Nf6 5. Qe2 {No Marshall. Use to play this as a theory dodger.} 5... b5 6. Bb3 Be7 7. a4 b4 8. d4 {8....d6 is a blunder (see game in intro) have to stop the Queen from going to c4.} 8... d5 {I get to play a d5 Marshall move after all.} 9. exd5 Nxd4 10. Nxd4 exd4 11. O-O O-O 12. Rd1 Bg4 {Played to open up the Kg1 diagonal.} 13. f3 Bc5 {Wee cheap trick with a discovered check winning the Queen.} 14. Kh1 Re8 15. Qc4 {Saw that and liked the look of.} 15... Bd6 16. fxg4 {Surprised he took it.} 16... Nxg4 {This is a great position for Black. Threats all over the place.} 17. Qxd4 {Very quickly spotted the pattern and played.......} 17... Re4 {...when 17...Re1+ 18.Rxe1 Qh5 is 0-1 on the spot. Terrible from me but I've been playing some right tosh recently. Although I play like a mad teenager I am an OAP and need to slow down. (nah...where is the fun in that.)} 18. Qg1 Bxh2 {At least I've not chucked a win away.} 19. Qf1 Qh4 20. g3 Bxg3+ 21. Kg2 Qh2+ 22. Kf3 Rae8 {And I still know the attacking rules of thumb. Get everyone in on the act} 23. Qg2 Re3+ {White resigned, it ends thus....} 24. Bxe3 Rxe3+ 25. Kxg4 Qh4+ 26. Kf5 g6
Hi Hells-Caretaker, I'seen his name a few times and gone through a game or two.
Continuing the theme of 'Check all Checks' this one belongs in the Hall of Doom.
We both miss a game winning (for him) check. So disgusted with myself
when I swindled a win I asked him to offer me a draw and I would accept it.
He refused saying his bad play did not deserve a half point. A gentleman!
My terrible play did not deserve the full point but chess is chess. I did offer.
1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 f5 3. d3 {Not the most challenging but good. If he had played one of the sharper lines I have 40+ years of theory to blitz out. } 3... Nc6 {Now I'm on my own so I'm in blunder land.} 4. Nc3 Nf6 5. Be2 Bb4 {Just developing and seeing what happens.} 6. Bd2 O-O 7. O-O d6 8. a3 {Good. He's making my mind up what to do with that Bishop.} 8... Bxc3 9. Bxc3 fxe4 {Open the f-file. Latvian players dream.} 10. dxe4 {A trap! if take the e-pawn he has Qd5+ and Qxe4.} 10... Kh8 {I saw it and we both forgot the idea quite a few moves later.} 11. Bd3 {Now he protects the e-pawn.} 11... Bg4 12. h3 Bh5 {If he plays g4 I'll take it.} 13. g4 {He played it....} 13... Nxg4 {...I took it.} 14. hxg4 Bxg4 15. Be2 Bxf3 16. Bxf3 Qh4 {I must have something on here. End of analysis...onto to another game.} 17. Bg2 {In Hardcaore first to get an attack going has chances.} 17... Rf6 18. Qd3 Rg6 19. Qf3 {Had something like this in mind when I sacced my piece...now what.} 19... Kg8 {To get the a8 Rook into the game.} 20. Rad1 Rf8 21. Qe3 {Got to squeeze a blunder out of him before he plays f3.} 21... Qg4 22. Qg3 Qh5 23. Qh2 Qe2 {He might play Rfe1. That's is as far as analysis goes...onto the the next game.} 24. Rd2 {OK now what.} 24... Qxe4 {Got three pawns for the piece. And I'm not threatening anything....} 25. Kh1 {...that is when they relax, no threats, and play a blunder.} 25... Qc4 {So wrapped in in my Rh6 idea I blunder, recall thinking this is won.} 26. Re1 {He could have played Bd5+ and I resign.} 26... Rh6 {And just as I sent the move looking for a neat wrap up v Qhx6 I see it. White can play 27. Qxh6 and 28. Bd5+ Black is lost and resigns next move.} 27. Bh3 {The lad missed it .} 27... Rf3 {Black is now better. It was here I made the draw offer.} 28. Rd3 {He replied as he had missed it as well, he did not deserve the half point.} 28... Qxd3 {No more tricks...I'm three pawns up.} 29. cxd3 Rfxh3 30. Qxh3 Rxh3+ 31. Kg2 Rxd3 {Four pawns up and Black won the without any further drama.}
@hells-caretakersaid Jeff Horner - I know the guy - play's for Bolton Chess Club, I played against him in a simultaneous 33 years ago.. Nice game and notes by the way.
Agreed - I love it when the notes say what the player thought.
