How many know how to do this?
I never knew how until I played a blitz game yesterday.

Is it therefore possible to mate with 2 knights vs king? Or 2 bishops?

2 knights only it's impossible. You need to have an extra pawn from the other side so to impair his king movement.
2 bishops is allways possible.
Knight and bishop I know the ideas but have never tried them and two bishops I know how and have tried it a lot.
I think that there is a thread somewhere that teaches how to do with N and B.

Yes you're right. What I meant to say is that it can't be forced. 😳

Here's some resources:

Thread 32573 - this takes you to Ragnoraks excellent thread on the subject.

It takes a bit of work and some say it's a waste of time becaus ethe occurence is so rare but I think it's really good for training piece coordination and getting knights and bishops to work to gether. There is also (IMO) real beauty in the mating net.
