    BTW, ouwe might be right that an engine isn't really needed here, but the reason I suggested using one is that the book stated it was mate in 4. You thought that you'd seen a mate in 3 before, but you couldn't remember it. What I'd do in that case is, for the moment, assume the book is correct and find the mate in 4. Then, if you want to spend a few minutes on trying to find a mate in 3, that's fine, but I wouldn't waste too much of my time, since there's a real good chance the book is actually right. Then just use the engine to determine if the book is indeed correct.
