I'm not kidding, that 'My System' by Nimzovitch, is STILL the best book to get you into 'ideas' and out of move-by-move stuff. Reading that book will improve your rating from 1100 to 1600 (OTB), easy. It will give you a foundation for how to look at the board and get through openings without a manual.

"My System" is good. I think "Reassess Your Chess" by Silman was better though 😛

Great book, his language is far too scientific though. Great book all the same, a real joy to read 🙂
