How much did Joe Gallagher receive as a result of your purchase?

Me too, just last week as a matter of fact. I made a decision to play openings based on economical factors. I play the english as white because my local library has starting out series the English. I picked up the Kings gambit last week and intend on playing it soon, and more indepth than my ventures with the english. I only got a quarter into it before I had to return it, so I tend to play in only 2-3 variations.

I'm guessing Gallagher received his payment for the original purchase of the book! It's a different scenario - 2nd hand books and illegal downloads are different beasts.

Anyway, here's a question/situation I've been mulling over recently. On many of the chess fora I use, there are hundreds and hundreds of posts by players saying that they do not buy chess books/cannot afford chess books/etc.

So if, for example, I made my book available for download (pdf file or some other format) at a cheaper price (the book itself is £15.99/$30.99 at the moment) , would there be a market?
Would predominantly online players shell out for this?
If so, how much?
And what format would players prefer?

I would think that you would want to go .pdf or .tif. .pdf seems more common for this type of application.

I'd pay $US 5.00 for it to download. The problem isn't it going to be next to impossible to prevent illegal sharing if you sell it as a download? I mean, then the thieves will share it with each other. Or am I clueless to some technology that would prevent that?

Anyway, I plan on buying a hard copy of your book. GP's review & recommendation from Chandler Cornered (which I read before this thread was created) went a long way to convincing me to buy it. I just have to find the right time to sneak it past the wife.

That's good news Mr Hand - for both of us hopefully : )

Don't know much about the technology-side of online downloads/illegal copying/safety etc.

I'm a bit of an old-school 'print' man myself, but I'm willing to learn. And there're a lot of people out there who know much more about this than me who I am hoping will share their know-how!

unpack it with winrar. read/use/install/listen to it with whatever application is applicable.

Although, MAKE sure your only downloading LEGAL respectable files.

Torrents are commonly for sharing illegally. We were talking about technologies that would prevent illegal sharing.
