A lot of sites have the games (no notes) that are used in books.
If you not good enough to glean something from the bare scores
then that's not much use, but give it a try anyway.
After all what is chess book but a bare score with some guy
or computer filling in the spaces.
The Golden Treasury of Chess which is actually a brilliant book
has no notes, just 100's pf games. If you cannot figure why a move
was played then you have to dig in and find out why yourself.
Excellent training manuel.
Get it plus 100's of others here:

I looked at you site where you pay people to look at other sites.
Explain how it works and how much does it cost to join?

I have old out of print & quite rare books that I was seriously thinking about scanning & sticking up on rapidshare or the like.
Where would I stand legally, copying a book that hasn't been in print for say 10 years?
There was a list of many dozens of free books that could be downloaded with some file sharing software. This list was posted in the forums of another chess site. The thread is still there, but the original poster removed the list from his first post as the thread became a discussion of copyright.
Project Gutenberg, as has been mentioned, is useful for some older books.
As the author of a chess book, I'd be seriously pissed off if i found my book available on a file-sharing website without my permission.
It's theft - plain and simple. Very few chess writers make any money from their endeavours and I for one would certainly take action against anyone doing this with my book.
You have been warned!
As a rule, never ask for a link for something that is illegal..because even if someone puts a link to say a torrent...your question will now be in google and other search engines, and then everyone will find out about the gold mine then...poof! torrent gone....
I'd suggest sticking with pms when it comes to such questions..

How about not being a thief. You are stealing someone's compensation that they worked for.
Think about it, the more you steal from people (artists, musicians, writers, etc.) the less incentive they will have to do the work. The quality of the work goes down. We are left with crap. For an example, turn on your radio.
Originally posted by streetfighterI was thinking about books such as Gallagher's Winning with the King's Gambit (1993) & Palkovi's very rare English version of Morra Gambit (2000) both of which I own & both I very much doubt will be reprinted/updated.

If anything I would have thought people being made aware of these authors excellent books from way back when are more likely to be inspired to buy their books which still are on the market, thus earning the authors a little more dosh.
