I've read a lot about chess engines of late. Using chess engine against another human to win a chess game is clearly the wrong thing to do, but consider this. 1. The chess engine becomes the
master, and the human user becomes the slave in this situation.
2. What does the user of a chess engine win? Answer: Nothing! 3. You can learn just as much playing against a chess engine, as you can against another human. 4. What does the user of a chess engine learn? Answer: Nothing! My conclusion is people who use chess engines against others are more to be pitied than anything else, they are pathetic people who make themselves slaves to machines.

They win games, rating points, tournaments, cash prizes, prestige, etc. and take them from other deserving, honest players.
They deserve scorn, not pity. Those who cheat for cash prizes deserve criminal prosecution.
