I realize this has no doubt been discussed many time in the past.... But, What chess program would you recommend to purchase/acquire. I am primarily interested in game analysis...

    yesterday I just download arena 3.5 http://www.playwitharena.com/
I liked because looks very flexible for many purposes.

For example you can play blitz in many internet sites like IFCS,
and had 8 engines to choose.

I am just testing that one

Another free that I had in the past was Lucas

I liked too the chessmaster, but I can't find a copy of that, maybe is abandonware or something like that.

I think maybe Arena 3.5 is able to play as a client of RedHotpawn, but not sure...

I had a copy of one of the older versions of Chessmaster years ago, but I don’t remember if you can use it to analyze your games like I know you can with Fritz, etc. Will Arena? What do you mean play as a client?
I was hoping to get somebody that’s used Fritz, Rybka, Hiarcs, etc and give some unbiased reviews, but that might be a stretch as expensive as some of these are.
I am using Windows by the way.

Its hard to beat Stockfish. Its free, Its also one of the three best programs in the world (http://www.computerchess.org.uk/ccrl/4040/) and has ongoing support! Komono is good and there is an older free version.

yes. Arena has many engines (rybka 2.3.2 32 y 64 bits, spike, ruffian, sos 5.1, hermann and anmon) and accepts others, i downloaded stockfish and was ok .

Yes it has an option for analysis.

    Is ok, because is free.

a little bit vintage feeling but is ok.

    I am with Windows too
