I may not be great at chess at the moment, but I love this game to bits! The romance of the initial board set-up...
All the pieces in formation ready and waiting to charge into battle. The king looks up and down the line of soldiers and commands his army and it begins. Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war, cry havoc and charge, cry havoc and lay down your life in defence of your king. The beauty, the majesty, the romance, chess.
This is what I love, with every game I feel the noble battle of pieces. I love a sacrifice, the aggressive assault and the desperate defence. Pushing forward unto the breach and pulling back to defend to the last. The struggle of tactics and the beauty of strategy. I'm a chess romantic and proud!
After playing Chess 960, I noticed the incredible harmony of the initial starting position. Every piece is placed in a way that it has maximum flexibility and this gives rise to a mind boggling number of plausible plans. In Chess 960, I often found myself trying to reach the coherence and coordination of standard chess. The beauty of chess never fails to impress me.
i personally love it... i love the sweeping battle between the pawns. How the lowliest squire can rise up and take control of any battle. I love when the battlefield lends its pressure and the position of the troops forces the king into hiding. It's all beautiful.
It has more harmony than we can ever know.
Another game with this beauty is the Chinese Chess "Go"
Though I'm not so great with words, my fascination with the game too has been growing. The feeling you get from a rook sacrifice to get a checkmate or from positionally squeezing out an opponent to finally win or from winning a close king and pawn endgame is something that can't be achieved from anything else.
