GP's advice is pretty solid. I hadn't ever considered the first round bye..

Well, it is one game, friday, and two saturday and sunday.
Honestly, last time, I was so close to win the tourney, i miss the shot by giving a rook. The ugliest move i've ever seen in my life.
At the Lothian Championship in 1979/80 my opponent.
( I cannot remember his name - he stood for parliment a few times...)
went to the toilet.
I moved tables to a game that had finsihed and set up a random postion.
He came back sat down and started thinking.
I got up and sat down at the correct board.
He sat there puzzled looking at the board, then looking about him,
then looking at me....
...I was wearing my evil ear-to-ear grin.
He saw the funny side - game was drawn.
