Anybody get a copy of this yet. I'm pretty disappointed in it myself. I'm not interested in playing chess in 3d except over the board. they do have some good lectures but aside from the new format, everything is the same--even the opponents. And the funny thing is the opponents in C10 play worse that C9, even though theyre the same personalities. It's as if they made it easier so you'd like the software better. Oh, and the cursor (an arrow with a little chessboard) flickers infuriatingly throughout the game. I think this has something to do with my graphics card, but i'm not sure.

I agree with you, I thought it'd be at least a little different from 9K

I was pleased in CM10...but I never bought CM9. It is am extremely large program...but the program is in my opinion peerless except to itself, I suppose.

I had to update the driver for my video card, but once I did...flawless.

Yea, Tivillo. Now that you mention it, the mouse pointer did get a lot slower. The program seems to have gone backwards.

I recently purchased it. I think it's pretty great. The last version I had was 6000. So it is pretty new to me. For my ability, I like the training . I also like the graphics, seems pretty realistic to me. The flickering is a bit distracting though. At first I thought it was not running quite right but got used to the idea that it would just do it. A relief to know that apparently it is supposed to. I need to explore it more though. Have not really played any games on it.

I don't think it's supposed to do the flickering thing, Frank Burns. Chessmaster 9 didn't do it. Nothing is mentioned about it in the manual and when i went on the CM 10 site, all they did was ask me what kind of video card I was using, indicating some kind of bug. Also, i have noticed some middle rated personalities (around 15, 1600) seem to be dropping pieces for no reason. Now that doesn't seem realistic to me. Have you tried the 3d effect, Frank?

Anybody have installation or start up problems with ChessMaster 10?

Yes...My video card driver had been updated since I bought it and it did not have the 3D driver installed. Once I got the driver upgrade it worked like a charm.

Also be aware that the box says minimum space req. for the program is 500+Mb, but standard install is actually 1.7 Gb

What kind of video card did you get (and its cost if not too personal), Korona.

Last night I played a 1700 personality (TJ I think) and this time it dropped a bishop and a knight for two pawns, with no other compensation. No 1700 player would play like that. Another annoying thing always present in Chessmaster is it's inability to resign. It keeps playing. If you have nine queens and it has a lone king it'll steam blithely ahead. This, to me, doesn't indicate a serious, realistic attitude toward the game. Fritz resigns, then gives you a nasty comment. Very realistic.

I also have notcied the blunders that the CM personalities make. Yesterday, I beat a personality rated over 2000 in a G/60 unrated game.

However, I try to keep this in perspective. I tell myself that if I'm going to complain about how "stupid" the personalities are, then I better get my rating up against them before I do so. Yet, that seems to be the hard parrt.

I had CM8K, 10 seems a big improvement - much better interface!

I have SiS. It came in my Sony Viao. You need to go in and find out what king of card you have and explore the company's website for posible upgrades.

Go to your control panel...choose display, Choose settings, advanced, then click on the adaptor tab...copy the chip type and do a websearch on it. Mine was Sis 650_651_740. But I went to the Sis websight and got my system driver download.

Also...I noticed the T.J. guy also. His desciption mentions Morphy. Morphy loved to sacrifice pieces to get the dramatic checkmate. Problem is if you play a sound game, those sacrifices are just that and nothing more.
