I am considering subscribing (finally) and had a question about the various clans and members.

If you were to look, my rating is pretty terrible. It's like that for an obvious reason: I make way too many mistakes!!!

My question is: If I were to subscribe and then be able to join a clan, are there any clans that are willing to take me on? Also, what is the atmosphere of a clan? Are clan members willing to go over some games and point out mistakes and help one learn, thereby making the clan as a whole better? I'm not asking for a personal trainer here mind you, just want some constructive critisism among my peers in a friendly light.

Any thoughts?

You'll have many clans to choose from, regardless of your rating.

The atmosphere of a clan varies wildly. Some will have active forums and lots of interactions, while others will simply dish out games.

Indeed, most clan leaders will take you regardless of skill and then match you up with other players that they percieve are of a similar skill level. Some of the older clans might be a touch picky, but then again maybe not. There are some clans that do actively try to help their members become better players. If you want a pointer or two to these clans give me a message, and I'd be glad to help you out.

There's this odd idea that a clan with higher rated players is not better than one with lower rated players on this site. I find this concept mind boggling, but it seems to be popular here. When a clan challenges another, any rating advantage one might have over the other is generally nullified out by the clan leaders as they try to match people of the same rating together. Therefore a clan with an average rating of 1200 will have about a 50% chance of beating a clan with an average rating of 1500 in general. The mindset of people on this site is very strange that way.

The only place merit really counts on this site is the Clan Leagues pretty much.

You might consider trying ourbrous's clan "The Mythfits". I'm not a member but I hear good things about their higher rated players showing poorer players the ranks and helping them improve.

edit: here is the link to their page: Clan 168

If I remember correctly, that is what happens with cludi's The Vikings clan too.

It isn't really that strange. I've generally thought quite highly about the clan games I've played. Evenly matched games can be the most interesting and challenging to play in. Tough, but you know you have a chance.

Were all clan games to be based around who has the greatest number of 2000+ players, they'd surely die a quick death. This, combined with the leagues (where strength as you say does matter), is a good combination.

I agree that matches between players who are of equivalent strength are great. However ranking clans based on these matchups is silly.
