Hey, guys! I was wondering what is you opinion on the Classical Sicilian (1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 d6), regardless of whether you play this opening or not.

This opening has become ever more popular amongst top rated players for one reason alone: The possibility of a minority attack on the Queens wing. Plain and simple.
The average player ( myself included) just blindly follow suit.
A real herd mentality.

I used to play it lots but found that the Richter-Rauzer gives white a reallky good game..............all the rest are good fun for Black..........Najdorf or Taimanov are far better........No strong GM touches Classical Sicilian anymore.

P.S Can't wait too see what Black Mask says next!

I hope it does.........I like the opening, it would be good to see Kramnik and Anand play it again. They will have to find some theoretical improvemnt in the Richter-Rauzer though.

Well, although I don't know the exact continuations of all the openings I know of, I have a decent memory of a bunch of well known openings.

N.B.: Notice that I haven't even covered queen pawn openings...
