How sound would you say the colle is to play? I think its too passive and not enough bark.. Anyone here ever played colle ?

I think it's perfectly sound. Whether it offers white much though is a different question. I play the queens gambit now instead.

I like the Colle system, because I initially started out years ago with my first opening, the Stonewall Attack (descendant of the Colle). I love the closed variations, and I also have been looking into playing the Colle. However, why isn't the Colle played very often in World Class play? Hmmm... Makes you wonder. I think it's because it's not theoretically strong, and lacks the powerful possibilities of other openings like the Ruy Lopez and Guioco Piano. Why is it that most World Champion play Ruy Lopez or Ruy Lopez - Closed? Hmmm... Makes you wonder again.
