the thing is that time control here and in otb games doesn't exactly mean the same thing.
in a otb game, time control is part of the game as it is fully exploited by both players.
In correspondence game, time control is more a relative constraint agreed by both players so that the game take a certain time.
in most cases, you go beyond time control ...[text shortened]... ut it.
Then, I would say that it can be a decent thing not to click on the skull...
Where I play my serious games a time forfeit is not left up to the opponent, it is instant and is viewed as a serious crime resulting in two weeks suspension, four weeks if the player is judged to have forfeited in a lost position. The penalties are cumulative so forfeit a heap of games and you may not play for a very long time. Correspondence players view a time forfeit as the height of bad manners.
Do the decent thing and don't click the skull? Rubbish, click the skull and then hunt him down and slaughter his livestock, carry off his women, ravage the family pets.... OK, that may be going a little far but don't let anyone get the impression correspondence chess is some cosy gentlemanly game. It is not, it is the closest thing to hand to hand combat over a phone line (or with postcards or emails or whatever). When someone has lost, no matter how, do the decent thing and put them out of their misery.

We are not here out of decency Mr 'I'm a good guy' Macpo.
What happened with the 20 time outs you took, not feeling decent that day?
You cannot go around feeling decent one day and not feeling the decent the next.
That is indecent.
I just want to say I am not against taking skulls;, but the justification "you have the right to, because time is part of the game" etc. is not very honest.
People take skulls not because time is part of the game, but most of the time only because they enjoy to win the easy way.
by the way, I suspect that this pleasure of the skull is not far from the pleasure of winning by cheating. the basic trick is the same: on the one hand, you know that you win without any real confrontation with the player; but on the other hand, you feel a bit like a good chess player, which, objectively, doesn't make sense.
This is what your justification about "you should take skulls" hides, I would say.
Then, I am not against taking skulls, I very much understand all this; as you pointed it out, I am myself doing it sometimes. I guess I am a potential cheater, somehow.
Hi SG 😳
So it was nicked...and here was me giving you credit
for a hidden talent.
Hi Mr Macpo
So now skull crushers are closets cheats.
""by the way, I suspect that this pleasure of the skull is not far from the
pleasure of winning by cheating"
"This is what your justification about "you should take skulls" hides, I would say."
That is a very interesting thing to say.
I have no idea about the pleasure, if any, one gets from cheating.
Please tell us more about this "pleasure of winning by cheating".
"People take skulls not because time is part of the game,

Yes. A win without busting my head or dropping a clanger is always welcome.
If the guy does not make a move in the agreed time control he losses.
How do we skull crushers know what is going on.
What is it you want us to do, sit there waiting....waiting.....waiting....
If the option was not there then the whole site would be full of
unfinished games.
Non subs would get 6 games and then have to resign their games
to get another 6 games.
Back to the closet cheating.
One could argue that those who are against the clicking of skulls
(but take them anyway) do so to give the falst impression the win
is of no importance to them.
It swings both ways.

It was Einstein. If you ever have a quote you cannot trace
then credit it to Einstein. Him or Noel Coward.
Still don't think taking a skull is being unkind whether you are worse or not.
If you are that worse when why not resign and be done with it.
Why are you playing on if you are worse and won't take a skull?
What are you hoping for? A miracle?
A skull apears. It's miracle.
No No not that kind of miracle.
The 'him leaving a mate on in one move' kind of miracle.
They will take that quick enough.
Not taking skulls but taking a mate in one is Hypocrisy. 🙂

(Not) taking a skull has indeed little to do with being (un)kind. Neither with being hypocritical.
I will ignore the skull and wait for my opponent to move when I enjoy the game and would regret to end it; otherwise I take the skull.
In team (clan) games I always grab the skull. Also when the game bores me, especially when my opponent should have resigned in stead of running out of time.
"Would your answer vary if the opponent was your mother?."
Yes, my mum plays on here User 386029 and if we ever meet
and she does not stick by the agreed terms then I'll click her skull.
