I had never seen that opening before, and was not sure it would work.
After They took the knight, is there anything they could have done without at least losing a rook
ThanksGame 3601053

Well it's called the "Damiano Defense." It should really be called the "Dumbass defense." It's the greatest opening ever created for white...

I think 6. ...d5 could have prevented an immediate meltdown of black's game. But I agree, 2. ...f6 is horrible.

Edit - Also, 3. ...Qe7 lets Black live, but with a bad position. (4. Nf3 d5 5. d3 dxe4 6. dxe4 Qxe4+)

Here is a game I played against that defence, but black played a bit stronger than your opponent. I still prevailed however. Game 2878543

Here's a couple of the same thing. It was funny - I had never seen anyone try that defense, and then I got a few all together. I haven't seen it since.

Just take a look at the game ChessJester posted. The rook is toast.

Damiano's Defense is named after an early chess annotator that condemned it as leading to a lost game. Too bad they named it after him, since he pointed out how badly it sucked.

Yeah, I read that somewhere. Damiano got screwed - now he looks like a total chess gimp for all time.
