I thought this sacrifice was a little unsound but it seemed to do the job in the end.

Nice. I have found that we 1500-1700 players rarely put much thought into good defense. e6 is however a location I always watch for sac's in Bc4 lines against the najdorf/schevengan.

I'd object in behalf of Patzergrl, she's a Capablanca of defence. It's crazy. Actually... I'm starting to believe that if you're a good tactician, you're probably a good defender.

Sacrifice was sound, but after sacrifice both sides didn`t play the best.

13.0-0-0?! (13.Nxg7+)
13....Rg8?! (13...Kf7)
14.Kb1?! (14.f4 and if 14...b4 then 15.Nd5)
18...Rac8? (18...Rge8)
Final mistake of black was 19...b3? - but also after 19...Nxd5 20.g6+ Kxg6 21.Qe4+ Kf7 22.Rxd5 Nf6! 23.Rxa5 Nxe4 24.Rxa6 black would have to fight for draw.

I expect thats what they used to say to tal after some of his games too...

I wasnt sure of Nxg7+ because the sacrifice tends to be played after white has castled queenside and also the white queen was not in a position to get near the black king quickly so I had a feeling there might be a black comeback if I didnt act quickly.

I think Rg8 was a definate mistake - Kf7 and black can begin playing for a win.

After 13.Nxg7 (instead of 13.0-0-0) you would get third pawn for piece and you would still have dangerous initiative as black king would not be able to castle.

13...Kf7 was better than 13...Rg8, but also after 13...Kf7 14.Bxf6 gxf6 (14....Kxf6 15.e5+; 14....Nxf6 15.e5; 14...Bxf6 15.Rxd6) 15.Nd4 white have some compensation for piece, but black position would have better than after 13.Nxg7.

I usually do take the g pawn when playing that attack but i tend to have developed differently as white.

Nice! I've played the same sacrifice before myself though i can't remember which game it was or whether i won or not. I have a feeling i might have won but as with most things regarding my memory it's all a bit hazy...🙂
