No. If you want to take people out of their book and experience, play c4

1.d4 may be theoretically best since it accomplishes the most, and the pawn is protected by the queen, the kingside is not opened up, and it prepares to build the biggest center possible.

Of course, we will never know for sure. I like 1.e4 better anyway and this is a prereq to 1.d4 (only my opinion).

e4 = more open games, more tactics and blood
d4 = more closed games, more positional chess
c4 = more closed games, more positional chess (often transposes to 1. d4 openings)
Nf3 = either Hypermodern play from white, or transpositional device to openings that start with the other 3 (e.g. 1. e4 King's Indian Attack, 1. d4 Colle, etc.)

you said you wanted to be "more aggressive"...it's not the best description but considering your overall demeanor, I suggest you play e4

i prefer c4. many people dont know how to play the openings or the ideas behind it. c4 and d3 sometimes fallow and if black doesn't play c5 then e4 is a good reply preparing for f4 and eventuallly break down his center so you can play d4. and get that big open center. i like the games because its easier for black to get into trouble than white.

after Nf6 you play g3. fianchetto the bishop usually bringing the e pawn to e4 or d4 only after Nc3 do you play e4. heres a common line c4 Nf6 g3 d6 Bg2 Nc6 Nc3 g6 e4 Bg7 Nge2 0-0 d3 or instead of d3 white can castle and later either play d3 or play for d4

sometimes i figure that i'd rather play an e4 game just for old times sake. i knew you were a sicilian player and love a good sicilian game.
